Summer School
June 15 - 18, 2005
The third annual Summer School on Building Community, June 15 - 18, 2005 at Langara College, is an exceptional opportunity for capacity building, networking and renewal for those doing paid and voluntary work in the non-profit, community building, and social change sectors. This is your opportunity to expand your effectiveness, celebrate success, and build community.
The Summer School begins on Wednesday, June 15 with a day-long Social Economy Forum. Drawing on the rich and diverse experience of participants, this forum will explore how we can strengthen the social economy in BC and help build connections among groups and organizations in the nonprofit (voluntary), business, labour and civic/government sectors. We welcome your ideas and perspectives.
On Thursday, Friday, and Saturday morning (June 16 - 18) choose from over 40 half- and full-day workshops. We are pleased to present a wide range of engaging, hands-on workshops in the following streams:
Building the Social Economy
Working Together
Reaching Out
Art and Social Transformation
Cultivating Leadership.
The learning process never ends! The Summer School program includes ample opportunities to take a break from the stimulating atmosphere of workshops or to meet informally with new and long-time colleagues and friends. From Herb Walks to Integrative Energy Healing sessions, take a welcome break from your day-to-day routine and nurture your spirit.
On Wednesday evening join us to hear three inspiring stories of social economy initiatives in the Lower Mainland.
On Thursday evening see the film From New Age to New Edge, and participate in what promises to be a lively conversation following the film.
And what is an event on Building Community without opportunities for fun and celebration? On Friday evening, join us for a Dinner and a Community Celebration featuring rhythm and sound, summer solstice ritual and circle dance.
Details about the program and registration will be available on this website in May. Check back frequently to stay updated!
